With many children now spending an indefinite amount of time away from school. Many families may be looking for educational resources. As social workers, part of our role is often to connect families to resources!
My lovely classmate and fellow intern helped find these resources. What a great reminder that even in hard times, there are people who go out of their way to help. I hope you find these resources helpful:
FREE ONLINE RESOURCES
Scholastic (www.scholastic.com/learnathome): Scholastic is allowing use of online educational resources for families and students during school closures.
Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org): Khan Academy is a free online learning tool for students. It offers courses for all grades, including SAT and AP lessons.
Code (www.code.org): The site provides lessons to help K-12 students learn to code for free!
Starfall (www.starfall.com): Starfall.com is an online resource that helps pre-K to 3rd grade students with language arts and math lessons. It also offers free downloadable worksheets.
Duoling App or Website (www.duolingo.com): Duolingo is a learning site with games and creative lesson plans offering a personalized learning experience in more than 20 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and more. https://www.duolingo.com
Time For Kids (www.TimeforKids.com): This site offers K-6th grade student articles, separated by age group, for students to learn about different topics.
National Geographic Kids (www.kids.nationalgeographic.com): Students of all ages can enjoy science experiments, animal watch cameras, and other activities.
Mystery Science (www.mysteryscience.com): Website offers a starter list of K-5 science lessons that are easy to do at home and for free. No sign-up or log-in required.
OPTIONS THAT REQUIRE PAYMENT
FutureLearn (FutureLearn.com): This website partners with leading universities and organizations around the world to offer our learners relevant, high-quality courses across a huge range of topics. YOUTUBE
Youtube (www.youtube.com): There are many channels on Youtube. Different channels may be appropriate for different children. Here are just a few:
Blippi and Blipp Espanol (two channels, one english, one spanish) - Blippi is a channel for young children. He sings and teaches about different topics including colors, animals, and different jobs.
Butterfly Spanish - The youtuber teaches Spanish lessons. From what I have seen, she appears family-friendly. Check it out for yourself!
Bill Vicars - This channel teaches sign language to adults through observation. This may be appropriate for high school students learning sign language!
PBS Kids - The PBS Kids youtube channel has short songs and videos for children.
WELLBEING
GoNoodle (www.gonoodle.com): GoNoodle® engages 14 million kids every month with movement and mindfulness videos created by child development experts.
Breathe Kids App: Provides videos with animations to help children practice breathing techniques.
